Easter Day

April 20th, 2010

The bunny was up early doing what he is known for in our house. Leaving his jelly bean trail to the baskets. He starts off near the kids doors and leaves a trail to their baskets.

After the kids ate breakfast, we got ready to head to church. Emily was in the church’s Easter production, she was singing in the children’s choir.

Once service was over it was time to head over to my Aunt Verna’s house.

Time was spent playing bubbles, touring the back yard, chatting with family..

Then it was time for an Easter Egg hunt, starting with the youngest Mia with her grandpa helping.

Then Emily was off looking for eggs.

Cecilia needed to work quickly as the two younger girls were on a roll.

Finally Andrew got to show the girls how it was done.

Nichole didn’t have too much luck, I think she was trying to find them with her eyes closed?

There was even a pinata at the Easter celebrations.

Time to blind fold the older ones, Cecilia doing pretty good despite the blind fold.

Time for Andrew to use his muscles and break that thing apart!

That didnt work so Monica busted it open then it was a mad rush to get the most candy.

Poor pinata, I felt the same way after a long day. I was so tired and worn out by the time the day was over. Something was going on..

Easter Egg Hunt at School

Emily’s kindergarten class along with the first graders had an Easter egg hunt at school.

The bunny baskets were all ready to be filled with eggs. The girlbunnies were standing on one side of the room while the boy bunnies stood far away. They didnt want to catch any girl bunny cooties.

Finally they were allowed to join the kids outside to get ready for the hunt.

Excitement filled the air and bunnies and kids waited anxiously to get the go ahead to search for their eggs. Oh where to look?

Every bunny had to be filled with eggs numbered one to twelve. They had to be collected in numerical order, the kids did pretty well figuring out what eggs to grab.

Time to enjoy their loot, even though the eggs were suppose to be filled with no candy. Some parents didn’t follow the rules, the bunnies and their owners appreciated that. Shhh… don’t tell.

Easter Biscuit Bunnies

Going to go back to Easter to share how we celebrated the day with a few posts over the next few days.

We started out with Grandma Debbie’s recipe for biscuit bunnies. We changed it up a bit since we don’t care too much for raisins. She uses them for eyes, we use chocolate chips.

They are very easy to make, with the help of Pilsbury Biscuits. Use one whole one for it’s face while you cut another in half for it’s ears.

Use some chocolate chips (or raisins) for it’s eyes, a cherry for it’s nose and some blanched slivered almonds for its whiskers.

All ready for the oven.

Once you get them out of the oven put some frosting all over them and then eat them. Mmmm

Happy Birthday Nichole

Today Nichole celebrated her 19th birthday.

She spent part of the day window shopping with her friends at the mall. No pictures as mom was not allowed to go. Wonder why??

After she came home we went out to Macaroni Grill for dinner. The kids always get to pick some where to go for dinner on their birthday and this year that is what she picked.

After we got home and let our stomachs settle a bit from a very filling dinner we had cake. Mmm.. chocolate cake.

Another year and she still wanted the cherry blossoms on her cake.

I was reading a website online that was explaining what a light box was for photography. They had made theirs out of a box and placed on object inside of it to take it’s picture. I just wanted to play around so I just used a piece of poster board leaned against a wall to practice with. Even though my house is filled with stuff, I picked my new purchases as my subject. I decorate cake for different events at Rob’s work for free and they thanked me with a gift card to Bath and Body Works.

I lined everything up and started to snap pictures:

Then the area I was taking pictures started to get a bit crowded. Someone has to be by my side taking it all in so she could produce great pictures later on.

I had often seen some objects with a white background. I figured the picture was taken and they had just photo shopped the background out of the pictures turning them white. I used the same method to take the picture of the skydiver for my cake, I think it made the model stand out more. You focus on the object rather than the background.

Visit to a Cemetery

Nearby the house there was a fenced in older looking cemetery. Before picking up the older kids Emily and I went to check the cemetery out. It is a historic cemetery that was established in 1924.

I like looking into historical things, thus the reason to visit this cemetery. Some where there is an older cemetery that has the founders of our city buried, have yet to find it.

This cemetery even though I thought 1924 isn’t really that old had head stones that were already falling apart.

What really stood out to me was that some head stones were not the big granite looking ones I was familiar with. Some of the markers were actually cement tiles with the names and dates hand written on them.

As we were walking around Emily asked what is a cemetery. I explained that when someone dies they are buried in a cemetery. She jumped really high and then screamed ” Am I standing on someone???” She did a little jig cause she was wondering if she kept landing on someone. Just stay on the path and you will be good. I wonder why she didn’t ask why we were there to begin with. It isn’t your typical field trip, I guess she figures her mom is a little weird.

Ever seen the Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds??

When you visit or live in different places you notice all the little things that make the new place unique. Things that make you wonder if living in the new place is a good idea. This is one of those times, the other is the spring storms and tornadoes that could come along with those storms.

I have never seen this in my life before, o.k. only once, in a movie. A scary movie I had watched when I was much younger. The Birds

Right about the time the sun is setting there are certain areas nearby that attract Grackles. They look like small crows and they are noisy and they flock all together to these spots. When you seen them all come in you almost feel like they are going to attack you. Why would you want to go into HEB ( grocery store chain here) and get something for dinner. What if those grackles like your choice of dinner for the night? What if they don’t care what is in the bag but WHO is holding the bag? O.k. at this point you may think I am losing it, not telling the truth, stretching it a bit. Well here is the truth!! Yes, there are no eye gouging or attacking but there could be, one day.

If you thought that was a lot of birds, check this out. Here they come!

Flying overhead now, you could hear their wings flapping!!! Attack.

They just keep on coming and coming, I often wonder how they don’t get those electric wires to not touch the ground.

No humans were hurt during this photo session. Just wanted to let you know if you were worried.

Kids in the park

The park we went to had an area that had a replica of an old homestead in it.

We love finding these kinds of places, so much to learn from a different time period. Like needing to use an out house to go to the bathroom. I cant imagine having to go outside in the middle of winter, brrrr. Looks like Emily has to find some other place to go, this one hasn’t been used for a long time.

Nichole just wanted to sit around and pose for the camera.

While Em was looking for some where to go pee and Nichole posing Andrew decided to finally climb a tree. ( in the past he had some issues about tree climbing)

Feeding the ducks

March 21st, 2010

Before it got too late the kids and I headed back to the park to feed the ducks. With a bag full of torn up pieces of bread the kids were ready to feed the ducks. Nichole was the first to show the younger two how it was done.

At this point Emily is loving all the ducks coming their way to get some bread. Notice all the ducks in the background. Once the plastic bag made some noise it was almost like a dinner bell ringing. Come and Get it!
