Diversity Fair 2011

March 26th, 2011

Last year I brought half of my things in my home to Andrew’s school for their diversity fair. The teacher in charge had asked if I could do it again this year as well. I said sure, I could bring the other half of my stuff since I had only brought half this time.

When I had to go to Andrew’s school during the summer time to get his classes taken care of and his books picked up I ran into the teacher again. She asked if I was still going to help her this year. Of course just keep me updated on when it is and what I need to do.

So in January I got an e-mail from the teacher telling me about the diversity fair. In the e-mail she mentioned that the museum room was all mine. What?? Last year most of the stuff in the room was mine but other families brought things in as well. This year she wanted me to do it all by myself.

So that meant I spent a long time online researching everything I had. I then made descriptions onto little tags telling about all the items I was brining in. You never realize how much stuff you have until you do this.

In the library some of the kids had their own displays and they wore traditional clothing and told about the countries they represented.

I also put together things for a poster. The students and teachers were to pick a skin colored heart and put one word to describe themselves.

Hello Spring, nice seeing you again. Sort of

March 16th, 2011

Once again spring has arrived here in Central Texas. The weather has been warmer than usual and I am hoping that this doesn’t mean that summer is going to be extra hot this year.

I love spring time when the flowers bloom -achoo,

The allergy medicine is taken constantly, now all it needs to do is have a good rain. Come on California stop hogging up all the rain we need it to wash out the pollen in the air.

Texas Shoebox Parade

March 11th, 2011

I have never heard of a shoe box parade before, have you? I even had to Google it to see what it was. Well it is exactly what it sounds like. The first graders in Emily’s class had to decorate a shoe box with a Texas Theme. Should be easy enough to do. Em and I hit up Michaels for a few supplies and we got to decorating.

I didn’t get too many good pictures of the parade itself, here are a couple of students from Em’s class pulling their shoe boxes.

I forgot to take pictures of the sides of the box so everyone could see. So I thought when she brought it home I would take some more pictures of her box. When I went to pick her up she wasn’t carrying out her box. The first grade teachers had picked out some boxes to be on display in the hallway and Em’s was picked to be one of them. Pretty cool but that means you have to wait to see the rest of the box.

Photo Shoot Practice

February 28th, 2011

A friend of mine had another little girl recently and she allowed me to take pictures of her girls.

Here are a few shots I took.

It was so much fun practicing how to do newborn shots. The hardest part was trying to get all the girls together looking at my camera in the shot where all the girls are lying down together. Thanks Elaine for letting me practice on your kids!

Valentines Day

February 14th, 2011

This year was a bit different, instead of an afternoon party Em’s class had a Valentines Day Breakfast. I don’t know what is worse for a kid. To have all the fun in the beginning of the day and regular work the rest of the day or to anxiously wait till later in the day to celebrate. To me the kids didn’t care one way or another they were just as happy to begin the day with a fun breakfast.

The whole class singing and dancing to a hello morning song they teacher has then do every day.

DSC_0001

Time to pass out Valentines!

DSC_0020DSC_0029DSC_0008DSC_0068

Since Emily’s class had their Valentines earlier in the day I was still able to help out with the kindergarteners with their class party. I volunteer with this class every Friday afternoon so it was nice to be able to attend Em’s class party and the kindergarteners in the same day without any time conflicts.

This little girl, Fiona is a hand full. For some reason she and I clicked right away and it is exciting to see her challenge herself to do better so she could get more prizes from the prize box. I help out with the prize box so she always wants to surprise me with how well she did for the week. Fiona sure made my Valentines Day! See that little sticker on my shirt? She had came up to me so happy to see me and said Oh you are here!!! ( she knew I had Em’s party to go to) I was hoping you would come. I saved this for you since you are the best mommy in the whole wide world! Thank you for coming to my party. Fiona you sure do know how to melt my heart. Smile

Right on time, grandpa Sharps Valentines Day gifts came in the mail. It wouldn’t be Valentines Day without them.

Uno

February 11th, 2011

A while back I asked my manager for Fridays off. For a long time my schedule was made with random days off since we were down a few shifts. Some weeks it had me working ten days in a row if the manager was not paying attention to last weeks schedule. So I asked for Fridays to be a set day off, my second day off could be whatever. She could still have me on weekends and Tuesdays as those were important days. It has been so nice to have my Fridays off. One Friday night we decided to play UNO.

Shuffle, shuffle those cards:

DSC_0054DSC_0050DSC_0053

What cards to play? How could we make mommy draw some more cards. I had purposely told Rob to set  across from me. I knew we  are competitive and I needed a chance to win this game. Oh wait, I forgot HE has two kids. They were mean to me, I mean really mean. Skipping me, having me draw 2 and draw 4 whenever possible. All three of them enjoyed ganging up on me. I had no chance!

DSC_0042DSC_0046

Every now and then I was able to get EVEN!!!!!
